In 2026, Anzac Day falls on a Saturday. Monday 27 April is also a gazetted public holiday in NSW.
Here’s what that means for your business:
Saturday 25 April - Anzac Day
Most non-exempt retail shops must remain closed all day.
No partial trading. No opening after 1pm. All day.
Monday 27 April - Additional public holiday
You can trade. But every rostered employee is on public holiday penalty rates.
Plan your staffing accordingly.
Hospitality - No mandatory closure Monday, but penalty rates apply all the same.
The trap most businesses fall into?
Assuming their payroll system will automatically apply the right rates
- and finding out the hard way it didn’t.
Check your awards. Check your rosters. Check your systems.
